Reflection: Red Moon Rising is a book documenting the triumphs and setbacks of the Space Age, specifically during the very tense time of the Cold War. Both the Soviet Union and the United States were competing to have military control, and they were both trying to outpace each other on every front. Brzezinski shows how much both countries' rocket teams had to struggle to get over hurdles like funding, governmental support, launches, and development of the actual crafts. He also highlights the fact that the United States was very reluctant to start their space rocket program, and they actually delayed it multiple times. If the Russians hadn't been able to get Sputnik up and the media hadn't blown up the launch, we probably wouldn't be where we are today in terms of space exploration.
